RURAL AMBASSADOR AWARD

To be conducted annually, jointly by the RASV and VAS Ltd.
AIMS:
-
- To highlight the talent, creativity and ingenuity of young rural Victorians and in doing so encourage entrants to be role models across local communities.
- To encourage and reward enthusiastic, skilful and industrious young people who are actively involved and living in their communities.
- To assist all entrants through their participation to develop strong communication and leadership qualities.
GENERAL CONDITIONS OF ENTRY:
- Entry is via the official application form only, and available by contacting the Show Secretary on 5456 4103. The application form must be completed and signed by the applicant and returned to the Show Secretary by Friday 4th March, 2011 to Box 155, Cohuna, 3568.
- Entrants must be aged over 20 years and under 30 years as at 1st May, 2011.
- Entrants must provide information indicating their reason for applying for entry together with a curriculum vitae, indicating work experience, community participation and agricultural and Show involvement if applicable. Further information is on the official Information & Application Form.
- Finalists may be involved in a rural or agricultural based industry or be associated with a Show Society but do not necessarily need to reside in a rural community.
- If successful at Group level, participants must attend the State Final during the Royal Melbourne Show and all judging as requested.
- Announcement of the State Winner will be made during the Royal Melbourne Show.
- The State Winner is required to represent Victoria in the National Finals, and may be required to travel interstate to attend National Finals.
- The Committee will not enter into any correspondence in relation to selections and the judges‟ decision is final.
- An unsuccessful applicant may re-apply in following years providing they meet the guidelines set out.
- There will be NO joint winners. If a final decision cannot be made, advice is to be sought from the Chairperson of the Rural Ambassador Committee.
- All Finalists will be invited to join an RASV Committee of their choice for the 12 months following the competition.
- Previous State winners are ineligible to enter.
PRIZES:
- Cohuna Show level: Certificate & prizes.
- Group level: Certificate, RAS membership and be provided with an official jacket to wear at the State Final at the Royal Melbourne Show.
- State level: First prize winner will receive $8000 ($2000 cash and $6000 towards educational based activities and an opportunity to compete in the National Finals. Second prize will receive $2000 towards educational based activities.
JUDGING CRITERIA:
Entrants must wear smart casual tailored clothing and will be judged in accordance with the following guidelines.
- Community involvement 5 points
- Country Show involvement 25 points
- General and rural knowledge 20 points
- Personality 10 points
- Ambition/goals 20 points
- Communication skills 10 points
- Style, grooming and deportment 10 points
- Public presentation (final speech) 20 points
TOTAL 120 points
SOCIETY LEVEL
The winner selected at the local Society level represents that Society at the Group Final at Kerang in May, 2011. Should a winner at Society level not be available to represent the Society in the Group Final then the Society
may allow second place getter to be their representative. Should the second place getter be unavailable then the third place getter may substitute.
JUNIOR AMBASSADOR AWARD
AIMS:
- To give young people a chance to take part in a competition whilst still residing in their local district.
- To be part of a local Show and therefore highlighting the importance of Shows.
- To meet new people from all age groups with the same interests.
AGE: Open to males and females aged 16 – 19 years at the time of the Cohuna show.
WHAT TO DO:
- Fill in application form and prepare a resume – submit to the Show Secretary by Friday 4th March, 2011 to Box 155, Cohuna, 3568.
- Come along as requested for judging by 2 judges, which will be a semi formal interview in which you will be asked questions about yourself and assessed as per judging criteria listed below.
- Winner at Show Society level will compete in a Group Final. Group Final winners will compete in a State Final in June 2011 run by VAS Ltd.
- Entrants must wear smart casual tailored clothing and will be judged in accordance with the following guidelines.

Ambitions/goals 20 points
Communication skills 20 points
Personality and confidence 10 points
Overall presentation 10 points
TOTAL 100 points
PRIZES:
- Cohuna Show level: Lapel badge & prizes.
- Group level: Certificate and sponsored prizes.
- State level: The nature and value of the major prize will be confirmed closer to the State Finals in June 2011, but will include a major cash prize for personal or educational development.
